SafeSport parent checklist for the new season

Before tryouts and the first Skadium weekend, run this short checklist so athletes, coaches, and families stay aligned with SafeSport expectations.

Westfield Hockey Club treats SafeSport as non-negotiable — not a form you rush through on the car ride to Carmel Ice Skadium. Parents set the tone for how athletes talk about teammates, opponents, and adults around the rink.

Confirm required adult certifications are current for coaches and team managers. Ask your team lead which trainings are due before evaluation skates. Keep questions in the open — board and coaching staff expect them.

Talk with your athlete about reporting: who to tell if something feels wrong, and that speaking up never costs ice time. Use club Contact channels for serious concerns; don’t rely on group chats alone.

On game nights, model the standard we want on the bench: respect officials, leave coaching to coaches, and keep the shamrock section loud without crossing into harassment. Championship hockey includes how we show up for each other.
